OCR: TROPICAL RAIN FOREST LAYERS Tropical rain forests have four different layers. The bottom layer Emergent is the forest floor. The next layer, the understory, includes bushes and plants that grow below Canopy branches of the trees. The third layer, the canopy, includes tree branches where many plants and animals live. In the uppermost layer, or emergent, the tops of some trees grow above the Understory canopy to reach into the sunlight. These four layers are not clearly divided like the layers of a cake. Trees and vines connect all forest layers. You can never tell Forest Floor, exactly where one layer ends and the next one begins! See Also: Getting to the Top of a Rain Forest STOR
